There are many options available when it comes to choosing the perfect flagpole.
Displaying a flagpole in front of your home or business is a wonderful way to show your patriotism as well as beautify your property. There are quite a few options available, especially when it comes to the height and material of your flagpole. So, how do you choose? Check out these helpful tips!
1) Determine the proper height
A flagpole that is too large or small for your building and property will not only look silly, it may be an insurance liability. Make sure the flag is visible from various angles. The average height for a residential flagpole is about 20′.
2) Choose your material
The two most popular materials for flagpoles are aluminum and fiberglass. Although these both have their strengths, we recommend aluminum poles. Aluminum is great when you need something high strength, low maintenance, low weight, and economical. Our aluminum poles are available in a variety of colors and finishes. Also, our aluminum poles are installed in a way that grounds lightning, making them incredibly safe.
3) Choose a halyard system
A halyard system is the rigging used to raise and lower a flag on a daily basis. There are a few options when it comes to choosing a halyard system, and they all have their positives.
External Halyard System – This rigging is on the outside of the pole, locked in place with a simple cleat at the base of the pole. These are usually a less expensive option but they are a little more vulnerable.
Internal Halyard System – This system is located on the inside of the pole. It requires a special tool in order to raise or lower the flag. In areas where vandalism is a concern, this is a much safer option. In addition, because the rope is inside the pole, it is usually quieter when wind is an issue.
Once you have decided on the major factors, there are lots of options when it comes to finishes.
- Brackets & fasteners
- How many flags you will be flying
- Flagpole cleats
- Flagpole rope (halyard)
- Flagpole ornaments (toppers)
- Flagpole trucks (pulleys)
